News release for Canton Citizen of May 6, 2010

CANTON HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HAS BEEN BUSY LATELY

The Canton High School Alumni Association recently had a very successful “Trivia Night” and fund-raiser with Gary Titus at the Canton Town Club. It was our main fund-raiser of the year and everyone had a great time. Our thanks to the Bank of Canton for donating four Red Sox tickets (including parking) which we used as a raffle. We also want to thank our other raffle donors, The Suffolk Grille, C. Sykes & Sons, Draper Knitting Company, all of Canton, and Criscuolo’s Little Italy and the Last Shot Restaurant and Sports Bar of Stoughton, for their generous donations toward our other raffles.

This has been an exciting and productive year for the CHSAA. We are about to have a replica of the Canton High logo, eight feet in diameter, surrounded by the word “Welcome” in raised lettering, installed in the main entrance hallway of CHS, just above the stairway that leads up to both the classroom area and to Morse Auditorium, as a gift to the school. We are also participating in a program whereby students are given new paperback editions of the Classics which they are required to read for their various English classes, and they then will be able to keep these books for themselves. This is a program which Dr. Doug Dias, Principal of CHS, started when he previously was in Westboro, and which has proven very successful at CHS. We also will be giving two awards to two deserving graduating seniors at this year’s Scholarship Awards Night. We also hope to very soon make a donation towards the new Fitness Center that is now planned at CHS, and which will benefit every student in the school.

The CHSAA also sponsored a fun-filled “Pasta Supper” at the American Legion in January and all who attended had a great time and great food. All of this activity helps us work towards our mission of “being of service to the current students of Canton High School”. All graduates of Canton High School are alumni of CHS; however, our association is made up of volunteers who remember our high school days fondly, and want to help those students now at CHS, when times are quite different.
